Floaty McFloatFace
Floaty McFloatFace was my senior project in college. The project had to solve a real world problem, rather than be some lights and motors wired together. That is, it had to have a real world marketable application.
Floaty McFloatFace is designed as a rescue watercraft, should a passenger fall overboard off a cruise ship. Floaty McFloatFace is a wireless, battery powered, life raft that can be piloted to a passenger in an emergency. It is powered from a Lithium Polymer battery (more energy-dense than a smartphone battery) and communicates with a driver station (mounted on the ship) via standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It features a camera, which live steams back to the driver station, flashing emergency lights, and a waterproof enclosure.
It is based on a pair of raspberry pis, one in the float, and one in the driver station. The driver station includes a small TFT display, showing the webcam, and a standard off-the-shelf USB PlayStation 2 controller.
I would like to apologize for the audio. The sound system in the recreational center at Southern Polytechnic State University was controlled from a remote office. The employees could not turn the music down!
Weight For It
Weight For It is a smart scale based on the Weight Watchers point system. The user can place their bowl or plate on the scale, and tare-it-out. Then, the user can select a type of food from the onscreen menu, and weigh it. They can save, and switch to another food, etc, to build an entire meal on one plate. Weight For It will calculate the weight, and points, of the entire meal, and show them in a live feed on the display.
We partnered with InventHelp to attempt to secure a patent for this invention.
